Sapphire: The Traditional Taurus Birthstone
This guide uses Emerald as the modern Taurus stone because most of the sign falls in May, whose standardized monthly list includes Emerald. Sapphire comes from a separate, older stream of zodiac-gem associations, which varied by place and period. The 1912 committee never picked up sapphire for Taurus. That pairing survives as a separate, older custom. The blue stone medieval writers gave to oracles and bishops' rings, and the modern September birthstone.
